Distance Education:
Making the Connection
Tuesday, March 27
10:30 a.m. 2:00 p.m.

(Includes Lunch)

Societal shifts are creating revolutionary change within education. Student populations are becoming increasingly culturally and ethnically diverse. Enrollment is increasing while budgets are shrinking. Technological advancement requires constant skill development and adults have multiple lifetime careers, making education a life-long activity. More students have full-time jobs and families of their own. Educators must learn to deliver cost-effective, quality education to an ever-expanding and diverse group of students.

Distance education has become an essential component for most institutions of higher education. Issues to be discussed include models of instructional design, strategies for student interaction and community building, course management, student online assessment, student support services, intellectual property rights, funding formulas, and faculty incentives and rewards. This symposium will provide a forum for participants to hear from CEOs of leading distance education solution providers.

The revolution in computers and telecommunications has created unprecedented change and opportunity in all of our lives. The digital divide threatens to impede the health of our communities, development of a skilled workforce, and the economic welfare of our nation. This 3- hour symposium will explore the current state of the digital divide and the role of education in creating a Web of opportunity for all people.
