Vice President, Academic and Government Affairs Online Learning: Success Takes More than Software In the beginning, online education, or eLearning, was nothing more than a software platform mimicking lectures through written notes and corresponding with students through email. In short, it comprised Web-based correspondence courses, often garnering criticism from faculty, accrediting agencies and the public. Students dropped out of courses in alarming rates and colleges found maintaining and supporting online learning to be expensive. The eLearning world has leaped forward several generations since then, now providing a robust learning environment that approximates and, in some cases, exceeds the learning success of traditional instruction, according to industry research. This address will focus on current and future technology and support critical to eLearning success. The presentation will discuss ways to achieve both academic and financial success by satisfactorily fulfilling students needs; retaining them in the program through completion; and providing the services and technology that will help lead to a continued cycle of healthy enrollment, further growth, financial viability, and accrediting support.
