Standards-Based Assessment & Learning
Core Issue
The “No Child Left behind Act” requires states to have annual assessments in
place in reading and mathematics for all students in grades three through eight
by the end of the 2005-2006 school year, with science assessments added by the
beginning of the 2007-2008 school year. Only a handful of states currently
administer standards- based tests in both subjects across grades three through
eight, setting an unprecedented opportunity for states to enhance the
participation of all students to meet high standards as they build and improve
their assessment systems. Successful integration of technology into the teaching
learning process that is standard-based will give students life experiences that
will bridge the gap to the workplace of tomorrow.
