Technology in Education: The Focus of Districts Who Care
America’s Second Largest District, LAUSD, joins Chaffey Community College & DeVry University in Bringing Real Solutions to Pasadena
Pasadena, CA – Technology in Education is not just the name of a conference being held March 26 – 29, 2006 at the historic Pasadena Conference Center, it is the major strategy of every forward-thinking school president, superintendent and principal across the globe and no where is that truer than in sunny Southern California.
LAUSD, Chaffey Community College & DeVry University are hosting TechEd 2006, the 11th Annual Technology in Education International Conference & Technology Exposition right here in beautiful Pasadena.
As Roy Romer, Superintendent of LAUSD put in his welcoming letter to TechEd 2006 attendees, LAUSD “recognizes the critical role technology plays in the classroom as well as in society.” He adds that today’s students “need to master more skills than any previous generation; with more demanding requirements for college & careers.”
Technology has become a critical component in the functioning of everyday life and teachers are realizing what students have known for some time, if the school isn’t keeping up with technology, the students are left behind.
Dr Marie Kane, president of Chaffey College, adds that TechEd helps us “explore the possibilities… of where we will be and where our students, and the world of technology, will take us.”
Technology in Education is not an empty promise of gold at the end of the rainbow, rather it is increasingly viewed as a necessity in a world of growing populations and under-funded academics where administrators and educators must find a way to reach all students in an effective and viable way.
When students arrive in class with PDAs and iPods, schools must not only have a means of enhancing that students already vast understanding, but they must also help their teachers understand this technology and how it is impacting the culture around them.
TechEd brings together teachers of all technology levels and all education levels together to understand technology, its uses, and the importance of its impact on the student.
It is the goal and the mission of TechEd 2006 to “Share the Vision” by bringing together educators, school administrators and other professionals from the education industry into one location for three intensive and exciting days of sessions and hands-on labs combined with an expansive technology expo designed to provide real-world solutions to every campus, every classroom and every student.
“It takes more than just ideas to bring about change,” says Dr Rose Marie Dishman, regional vice president of DeVry University, “it takes education and action.” She adds that the TechEd experience is our “greatest opportunity to learn from [our] peers and discover those real-world solutions and how to meet the challenges of tomorrow’s classroom.”
